Presently, most generative AI music services are built upon unauthorised training, using copyright-protected materials that have not been officially obtained from artists and labels. This practice has been identified by industry leaders and formally accepted by generative AI music companies, raising considerable ethical and legal concerns.

The legal consequences of using music generated by AI built on illegal training are currently unclear and have not yet been addressed by any existing framework.
