Dub Sharma
Siddharth Sharma, mostly known as Dub Sharma, is a music composer and producer from India, producing music for film, TV, and radio since 2008.
To dub is to record.
Drawing on more than a decade of experience with the words and the sounds of India, he blends the flavours of the underground with the overground.
He started making jingles for a community radio station in 2008 while making music for theatre productions. He dropped out of college to study audio engineering at an institute in Mumbai, in the final few months of which a track made by him was featured on BBC Asian Network’s Friction Show as Bobby Friction’s pick in 2010. The said track, Raaz, featuring Jeetu Ramachandran, got listed as the track of the week and track of the month, and then made it to the best of BBC Asian Network 2010. The track was also featured on The Tom Robinson Show. He then became the BBC Introducing Artist of 2010.
He got the opportunity to be one of the music producers on the film Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) and the TV series MTV Sound Trippin’, based on the ideas of travel, folk music, and found sound. Later, he featured as a music producer on MTV Sound Trippin’ 2, Fox SoundTrek, and Dewarists. He also worked with the famous duo Salim Sulaiman on the music of Prakash Jha’s Jai Gangajal.
Dub Sharma also released his own music albums, ‘Vyuh’ and ‘The Rising EP’ with Sony Music, followed by Cues EP and Super EP.
He got his first big break with the release of Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy in 2019 that featured the title track Apna Time Aayega, and Azadi featuring Indian rap artist DIVINE. The film also featured the track Jingostan, written, composed, and performed by Dub Sharma. The term Jingostan was coined by Dub Sharma in 2018, designating a fictional dystopian society in which there is no democracy, free expression, and the ability to disagree without fear of retaliation.
He also produced the track Todun Taak featuring D'Evil for Farhan Akhtar and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s film Toofaan in 2021.
